Summer mountaineering with Dolomite Veloce GTX

16 September 2019

The new Dolomite Veloce GTX is definitely one of the most versatile technical mountaineering boots currently on the market.

It has been stripped down to the bare essentials, yet can still be used almost anywhere.

Long ascents to Alpine excursions, even with the use of crampons, easy climbing over rock or snow pose it no problem. When the going gets tougher, it is so lightweight it’s hardly noticeable in the rucksack.

It was designed for technical alpine climbing excursions including ascents and descents over glaciers.

The sole is developed to be fairly hard and provides optimum grip on small holds as well as good performance when used in conjunction with crampons.

The collar is purposely cut a little lower to provide maximum freedom of movement in the ankle joint, yet the boot still provides sufficient stability. An elastic insert around the ankle prevents stones and dirt from getting in.

The upper consists of one piece of synthetic fibre with just one seam at the heel. The material maintains its shape over time, is highly resistant to abrasion and thanks to a Gore-Tex lining is naturally waterproof and breathable.

I used the boot this summer on various combined excursions such as the Piz Badile north face, Grandes Jorasses, Watzespitze, etc and currently do not know many models I would rather wear.
